Encrypted E-Commerce solutions

E-commerce has received some notariety for not having been securely managed in the past. Personal information loss, including credit card data has received wide media coverage in those unfortunate circumstances when things go awry. As a percentage of e-c ommerce, the number of such events is insignificant (UNLESS you are the victim).

TNC has employed an SSL, or secure socket layer, server for applications with sensitive data. This is the protocol that makes the padlock on your browser go locked. Unfortunately, SSL only addresses the encryption of data during transmission to the SSL server. So TNC has developed E-Commerce solutions that also encrypt the data that is stored on our SSL server. In the event that machine is ever stolen, or electronically compromised, the data is protected by a very strong encryption algorithm. PGP and the e-mail software that is associated with it are also protocols that TNC has implemented. We have been disappointed by the publics reluctance to employ these tools. As an ISP that also does security audits we are dismayed by the general publics concern with personal information loss by e-commerce vendors on the one hand, but who then use, unencrypted e-mail.
